- "Pain and trauma may always have a place in life... In fact... I'd say it's something that shouldn't be seperated from us, even if we had a choice. Runs the risk of killing greatness. But understand, child... I can't have you tainting my bloodline with your insecurity anymore. There's a difference between what can make us and what can break us. Pushing the body and the mind to grow beyond its perceived limitations. Or... Lashing out at those weaker then you to satiate some type of selfish indulgence. He'll resent me sure... in the same way he resents you... But it won't be in vain. Men don't need toys. Men shape the future. And I'll make sure his pain will be a worthy sacrifice. It'll make him stronger. Tougher. More resilient. More grateful. More powerful. The benefits are endless. Frankly. I'll make sure to give him all the tools you lacked... wisdom... That, against my will, skipped a generation. I'll bear that mistake... but I won't allow it again... The boy is coming with me, Marty. Whether you like it or not. I will right your wrongs. I will teach him the Armstrong way."
- ―Mr. Armstrong
Appearance and Personality[]
Mr. Armstrong is a elderly man with gray hair and beard wearing a green cap and smoking a pipe. He seems to not approve the way of Marty's parenting. He is also misogynistic, refusing to teach Lisa karate because of her gender.
Story[]
Mr. Armstrong is the father of Marty and the grandfather of Brad and Lisa. He is the person that taught Brad the Armstrong Style. For some reason that is "against his will", he didn't teach it to Marty.
LISA: The Painful[]
His only appearance is in Brad's Nightmare, sitting near Brad's childhood home. He talks about wanting to take Brad under his wing and teach him the "Armstrong Way", while talking down on Marty and his way of parenting.
He is also mentioned by Lisa expressing her desire to let him have the girls join his Karate lessons.
LISA: The Joyful[]
He is mentioned once by Marty in the Marty Epilogue saying to Brad "Well, you don't need all that Karate shit your granddad did."
Trivia[]
- Prior to the release of Definitive Edition, the only mention of Mr. Armstrong was from Marty, in one of the Joyful epilogues.
- He is seen talking directly to Marty in Brad's Nightmare, however Brad apparently knows about this seemingly private conversation. He could be eavesdropping, or he could have made the whole thing up in his head.
