The Neighborhood is the first playable area of LISA: THE PAINFUL RPG. It is one of the few areas of Olathe that are seen prior to the White Flash, and is played through while Brad Armstrong is a young child. The Neighborhood is a somewhat scenic part of Olathe which contains several picturesque houses.

Neighborhood 1

Story[]

Although the exact location of the Neighborhood in Olathe is unknown, it is known that it is where Marty, Brad, and Lisa Armstrong lived together for an indefinite amount of time. The area (and, by extension, the game) begins with Brad defending his friends (Richard Weeks, Sticky Angoneli, and Cheeks Gaywood) from a group of bullies (Chris Columbo, Tom Cream, Sergei Rage, and Larry Sports). Brad lies to the bullies and tells them that he was responsible for the supposed theft of the bullies' ball (even though it is implied Richard was actually responsible), and allows them to beat him instead.

After Brad has been sufficiently beaten, the player guides him back to Marty's House.

The Playground[]

PastPlayground

The Playground is located on the west side of the Neighborhood, and is the first playable location of the game. It is quickly made apparent in this area that Brad is willing to defend those that he cares for with little to no regard for his own health and safety (likely foreshadowing his similar behaviour towards Buddy later in the game). After Brad allows the bullies to beat him instead of Richard, his friends can be interacted with; Richard apologizes (likely for stealing the ball in the first place) and thanks Brad for taking the beating for him, telling him that he "didn't have to cover for [him]". Cheeks and Sticky also apologize to Brad, implying that they were also somehow responsible for the ball's theft. If approached and interacted with from behind, Sticky will respond with silence.

Mr. Angoneli's Cliff[]

HoboPast

Located on the west side of the Playground, a cliff that is blocked off by a toppled shopping-cart can be seen. An unreachable ledge is above, and Mr. Angoneli (who is heavily-implied to be Sticky's father; Brad can experience a hallucination of Mr. Angoneli after he reunites with Buddy, asking him if he has seen "Tony", which is eventually revealed to be Sticky's real name) can be seen slumped underneath a tree. He cannot be interacted with, and does not visibly react to Brad's presence.

The Neighborhood[]

Neighborhood 1

The larger part of the Neighborhood contains several houses (all of which cannot be entered, as the doors are locked). Outside one of them, a man can be seen moving back and forth across the lawn with a mower, cutting the grass. If he is interacted with, he will take notice of Brad's visible injuries, and lightly upbraid him (implying that this is not the first time that Brad has experienced a rough encounter with Columbo and his bullies).

Outside of Marty's House[]

MartysHouse

On the east side of the Neighborhood, Marty's House can be found. Brad and Lisa's poor home-life is immediately evident from the smashed windows and general decrepitness. Although the act is not explicitly shown in-game, Lisa would eventually commit suicide in the house after enduring years of Marty's abuse.

NeighborHood Glasses

On the east side of Marty's House, Dr. Yado can be seen. He is noticeably younger, with a goatee and a fuller hairstyle. If he is interacted with, he will remark to Brad that Olathe is "perfect", likely referring to his plan to unleash Joy and transform all of Olathe's residents into Joy Mutants, allowing Yado to reform it to his own likening.
